ABSTRACT

Background and Objective: Multiple sclerosis [MS] is one of the most common diseases in the central nervous system, caused by damage to myelin sheath. This study was done to compare the effect of eight weeks of core stabilization, theraband resistance and combined training on functional endurance and postural control in male patients with MS


Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 40 male patients with MS were non- randomly divided into three experimental and one control groups [each group, n = 10, age range 25 to 35 years, BMI between 20 and 25, and physical disability scale of 1 to 5.4]. Core stabilization, theraband resistance and combined training, balance berg test and 6-minute walk test were performed in order to exercise protocols


Results: Capacity movement and postural control were significantly improved in experimental groups in comparison with control group [P<0.05]. The most variability was related to the combination of training program


Conclusion: Eight weeks of core stabilization, theraband resistance and combined training improves functional endurance and postural control in men with MS

ABSTRACT

Background: Despite the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in many countries still have not found a certain cure for it


Objective: So the purpose of this study was to survey the effect of curcumin supplementation with resistance training in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease


Methods: In a randomized, controlled trial study, 45 patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease were divided into 4 groups [resistance training, curcumin supplement consumption, resistance training with curcumin supplement consumption, and placebo]. The experimental groups performed a 12-week resistance training 3 days a week or consumed a curcumin capsule per day or both of them


Alanine aminotransferase [ALT], aspartate aminotransferase [AST], and alkaline phosphatase [ALP] levels before and after the protocol were measured


Data were analyzed by using ANCOVA with SPSS 22 software in P<0.05 level


Results: ALT and AST levels in resistance training and resistance training with curcumin supplement consumption significantly decreased [P<0.05] but in ALP levels significant differences was not seen [P>0.05]


The grade of liver fat in any groups did not change significantly [P>0.05]


Conclusion: On the basis of these results, we suggested that the Curcumin supplementation with resistance training in patient with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease could cause to improve liver function, but more studies must be conducted in this area with more subjects

ABSTRACT

Bacillus cereus is a spore-forming food-borne pathogen often associated with food products such as meat, vegetables, soup, rice, and milk and other dairy products. The use of plant-derived antimicrobial compounds such as Zataria multiflora Boiss. and Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees. essential oils as natural preservatives inhibits the growth of several pathogens. The objective of this survey is evaluation the antibacterial combination effect of multiflora Boiss. and Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees. essential oils on Bacillus cereus in a food model. Effects of different concentrations of Zataria multiflora Boiss. and Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees. essential oils on growth of Bacillus cereus were evaluated in commercial barely soup in two storage temperature [10 and 25°C] at certain intervals. The growth of Bacillus cereus was significantly decreased by Zataria multiflora Boiss. essential oil 45 microl 100 ml[-1] concentration, combination with Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees. essential oil 30microl 100ml[-1] in 10°C[p < 0.05]. In 25°C by Zataria multiflora essential oil 30 and 40microl 100ml[-1], the growth of B. cereus was lower significantly [p < 0.05]. The combination of Zataria multiflora Boiss. essential oil and Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees. essential oils in 10°C, and Zataria multiflora single in 25°C exhibits inhibitory effects on growth of B. cereus. Combination of these essential oils together in small amounts can inhibit growth of B. cereus significantly; so be maintain the acceptable sensory properties of foods

ABSTRACT

Bacillus cereus is a gram positive and spore-forming bacteria that often associated with food products such as meat, vegetables, soup, rice, and milk and other dairy products. 1 - 20% of total outbreaks of food intoxication in the world are caused by Bacillus cereus. There is an increasing interest in the use of plant-derived antimicrobial compounds as natural preservatives for foods; such as Cuminum cyminum L. essential oil that inhibition of the growth of several pathogens by it has been reported in various articles. The objective of this survey is evaluation of antibacterial effect of Cuminum cyminum L. essential oil on Bacillus cereus in a food model. The essential oil of Cuminum cyminum plant was obtained by steam-distillation and analyzed by GC/MS. Then, effects of different concentrations of this essential oil [0, 50, 150, 300 and 450ppm] on growth of Bacillus cereus were evaluated in commercial barely soup in two storage temperature [10 and 25°C] at 12 intervals [0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21 days]. The logarithm of Bacillus cereus was significantly decreased by 300 and 450ppm EO concentration incubated at 10°C storage temperature and 450 ppm EO concentration incubated at 25°C storage temperature [p < 0.01]. The results showed, the potential inhibitory effects of the Cuminum cyminum L. essential oil on Bacillus cereus in a food model [commercial barely soup]

ABSTRACT

The study aimed to examine the association between human leukocyte antigen [HLA] class II allele frequencies and breast cancer in Iranian women. A total of 100 patients with pathologically proven breast cancer who referred to Cancer Institute were randomly selected and compared with a group of age matched healthy blood donors [n = 80]. HLA class II alleles were determined by amplification of DNA followed by HLA-typing using sequence-specific primer [SSP] for each allele. The frequency of HLA-DQA1 0301 [P=0.001, OR=3.4] and HLA-DRB11303 [/M].02, OR=2.3] among breast cancer patients was significantly higher than those in control group. HLA-DQA 10505 [/M].003, OR=0.4], HLA-DRB11301 CP=0.002, OR=0.12] and HLA-DQA10101 [P=0.01, OR=0.21] alleles showed negative association with breast cancer. The findings suggest that HLA-DQA10301 allele is mainly associated with increased risk of breast cancer in Iranian female patients. HLA-DQA 10505 and HLA-DRB11301 alleles are suggested as protective genetic factors against breast cancer. The findings confirm that specific alleles of HLA class II influence breast cancer risk
